Spätkauf Hutfabrik

Hidden Berlin Instagram feed (22 August 2015)

Literally translating as “Late Buy” the German Spätkauf stirs up images of late-night stores and shady midnight shoppers. In Berlin, though, Spätkaufs are the informal social hubs of the city – and Hutfabrik is a particular gem. An independent family-run business, you’ll come here to pick up emergency groceries or some pre-barbecue beers. But you don’t just buy drinks here. After paying, the cashier will ask if you want your bottle opening. What: you just paid €1.50 for a drink you can enjoy on the premises? Oh yes. The tables outside aren’t just for show - and in the evenings, the shop buzzes with friendly chatter and laughter. Berliners have been known to pop into Hutfabrik before a club, and end up staying all night. But one thing that sets this Späti above its peers? Its ability to throw a party. From Halloween parties to summer music festivals, the Hutfabrik family loves to throw open the doors and invite Berlin round for a drink. #BRLN #Berlin #Hutfabrik #HiddenBerlin #Party #LateNight #PrenzlauerBerg #HiddenBerlinPlaces #Nightlife #Drink #Friends #Travel #Music #Summer #Alcohol #VisitBerlin #BerlinStyle #Shopping #Midnight
